Did you know that 1984 was the year that Advance Australia Fair was officially proclaimed as the Australian national anthem; the one dollar coin was introduced; a 115g jar of Vegemite was the first product to be electronically scanned at supermarket checkout; and Paul Hogan first invited the world to ‘throw another shrimp on the barbie’?
It was also the year that Peppers Guest House opened in the Hunter Valley, signifying the start of one of Australia’s most endearing hotel brands, with an opening special of $100 bed and breakfast per night.

“We want to capture the casual and welcoming atmosphere that Peppers Guest House has long been known for as we celebrate 30 years of operation,” said General Manager, Brian Rooney.
“Guests are invited to bring along a bottle of wine to share –with most of them out wine tasting for the day I’m sure there will be plenty to choose from – and the team from the Chez Pok kitchen will ensure it’s a gourmet affair.”
Peppers Guest House won a swag of tourism awards throughout the 1980s and 90s including a permanent place in the Hunter Tourism Hall of Fame. Its restaurant, Chez Pok, French for ‘at the house of Pokolbin’, is one of the Hunter Valley’s most awarded restaurants and continues to serve a fusion of French and contemporary Australian cuisine incorporating the best local produce.

It is fitting that in its 30th year Peppers now numbers 30 hotels in its network across Australia and New Zealand. The most recent addition was Peppers Gallery Hotel Canberra in July 2014 to become Peppers’ first CBD capital city hotel, signaling the evolution of the brand – from small boutique retreats, to large scale coastal resorts and now chic metropolitan hotels.
