Sculpture at Scenic World 2015 artists to share their skills with children at dedicated Sculpture for Small People workshops
Let the kids unleash their creative side during the Sculpture for Small People workshops with exhibiting artists in this year's Sculpture at Scenic World 2015, from 15 April to 10 May 2015.
Inspired by the 31 sculptures by artists from around the world, children can learn skills using clay, rainforest objects, recycled material, and even bones, as part of the exhibition's Public Program.
Now in its fourth year, the exhibition curated alongside the Scenic Walkway set within Jurassic rainforest, continues a program of experiences for art lovers, enthusiasts, children and families. . Repeated below, no forums or family tours this year,
The highly popular Sculpture for Small People series ($10 per workshop, including all materials) allows children to engage with this year's exhibiting artists and the methodologies employed in their works.
Sculpture for Small People workshops include:
· CLAY HEADS (Friday 17 April at 10:30am, for children aged 9-13)
In this workshop small people will be introduced to the processes used to create a clay head just like international artist Lang Ea's ceramic installation Listen II: Remains.
· POCKET SURVIVAL KIT (Saturday 18 April at 10.30am, ages 6-9)
Join artists Jane Gillings and learn how to use recycled materials to create your very own pocket sized survival kit, based on her artwork Midden.
· MINI MINERS HUT (Sunday 19 April. All day drop-in event for all ages)
This not to be missed all day event allows families to get creative together making a take-home collapsible cardboard play-house based on the historic miners hut in the valley. Learn how to create your very own miners hut and then take it home to enjoy long after your trip to Scenic World is over.
· SHAKE YA BONES (Saturday 2 May at 10.30am, ages 10-14)
This is one event that is not for the faint hearted! Working with bones and found objects explore the themes and techniques local Blue Mountains artist Alita Graziano employs in her art making process.
Another highlight of the public program is the artist talk series where you can join artists along the Scenic Walkway sculpture trail and listen to their interpretation of their work each Saturday and Sunday at 11am throughout the exhibition There are also public guided tours daily at 1:30-2:30pm seven days a week,led by exhibition staff.
Visitors can also meet the exhibitors during Artist Talks to engage in lively discussions with a selection of artists including New Zealand artist Lang Ea, Wollongong artist Greer Taylor, and Northern Beaches artist Jane Gillings.
For a weekend arts escape, Scenic World has partnered with iconic Blue Mountains hotels to provide special packages at The Hydro Majestic, The Carrington Hotel, The Fairmont Resort, Lilianfels Resort & Spa, Echoes Boutique Hotel, and Parklands Country Gardens and Lodges.
Scenic World entry prices:
Sculpture at Scenic World ticket prices are $35 for adults, $18 for children (3-14 years), $88 for a family (2 adults + 5 children) and $32 concession. Multiple entry season passes are available for Adult $59, Child $25 and Family $143.
Ticket price includes exhibition entry; unlimited rides on the Scenic Railway, Skyway, Cableway and Walkway; and entry into the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre.
